ABOUT US
Background
Ekhaya Skills Initiative was initiated by the unemployed youth of Kwa-Langa Location in Uitenhage in 2014. They identified a need in the area to mobilise young people with the aim of involving them in productive activities away from crime. The idea was based on establishing an Information and Support Centre in the community. This was formed by their experiential observation which revealed that the government and other private stakeholders lack visibility in the Kwa-Langa community and services offered by these institutions lacked broadcasting opportunities to the community. Therefore they resolved on bridging that gap and forming relationships with stakeholders of government and the private sector in order to collect all necessary information and opportunities for the community. Its primary goal is to develop and empower young people in their holistic development through the running of an Information and Support Centre.
